چکیده

Background The Monitored Atherosclerosis Regression Study, a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, 2-year trial of lovastatin monotherapy, found that coronary lesions <50% diameter stenosis (%S) and coronary lesions .50%S at baseline had different responses to therapy. We now report on clinical, lipid, and nonlipid risk factors of treatment response in these lesion subsets. Methods and Resuls Two hundred seventy subjects, 37 to 67 years old, with plasma total cholesterol (TC) 190 to 295 mg/dL (4.91 to 7.63 mmol/L) and total triglyceride <500 mg/dL (5.65 mmol/L) were randomized to low-fat, low-cholesterol diet and either lovastatin 80 mg/d or placebo. Logistic regression was used to model the association between risk factors and coronary lesion progression in mild/moderate (<50%S) and severe (250%S) lesions in 220 angiogram pairs analyzed by computer quantitative coronary angiography. In the placebo group, risk factors (P<.05) for the progression of mild/moderate lesions were triglycerides and TC/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). Risk factors for the progression of severe lesions were HDL-C (negative), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C)/HDL-C, and TC/HDL-C. TC/HDL-C was the pre-

Effect of Heparin Administration during Coronary Angiography on Vascular or Peripheral Complications: A Single-Blind Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial

Background: Coronary angiography consists of the selective injection of contrast agents in coronary arteries. Optimal strategy for heparin administration during coronary angiography has yet to be determined. We assessed the effect of heparin administration during coronary angiography on vascular, hemorrhagic, and ischemic complications. Methods: Five hundred candiates for diagnostic coronary ang...

Relationship between the location of the most severe myocardial perfusion defects, the most severe coronary artery stenosis and the site of subsequent myocardial infarction [Persian]

This study evaluated the relationship between the location of the most severe coronary artery stenosis and the subsequent acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Methods: Of 1590 patients who were admitted with a diagnosis of AMI, we identified 44 patients who had undergone previous myocardial perfusion SPECT. Thirty-one of these patients also had previous coronary angiography. The relationshi...

Impact of Inhalation Aromatherapy with Damask Rose on Anxiety of Patients Undergoing Coronary Angiography: A Single-Blind Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial

Introduction: Coronary artery angiography is a common diagnostic procedure in cardiovascular diseases which could cause fear, stress, anxiety and probably some instability at hemodynamic parameters in the patients before this diagnostic procedure. This study aimed to assess impact of inhalation aromatherapy with damask rose on anxiety of patients undergoing coronary angiography. Methods: A sin...

The relationship between obesity and atherosclerotic progression and prognosis among patients with coronary artery bypass grafts the effect of aggressive statin therapy.

OBJECTIVES This study examines whether obesity accelerates atherogenic progression or adverse outcomes after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. BACKGROUND Obesity is a major risk factor for developing coronary heart disease. Whether obesity accelerates disease progression after CABG is unclear. METHODS We examined how body mass index (BMI) related to atherosclerotic graft progress...

A Randomized Double Blind Placebo Controlled Trial Examining the Effects of Pentoxifylline on Contrast Induced Nephropathy Reduction after Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in High Risk Candidates

Contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) (known as contrast-induced acute kidney injury) occurs as a result of acute worsening of renal function following a procedure with administration of iodine contrasts agent and remains a substantial concern in clinical practices. The purpose of this study is to investigate the preventive effect of Pentoxifylline supplementation on reduction of CIN occurrence af...
